What and When is Black Friday in 2025?

This is basically the day after Thanksgiving, and since I am a lover of getting closure, I had to dig deep to find out and share how the name even came to life.

Apparently, the name Black Friday, BF, was invented in the 1960s by the police of Philadelphia. They had to deal with so much chaos and traffic after Thanksgiving, when people and tourists would flood the city to shop for the holidays that would make them work extra hard and for longer hours, hence triggering the name black friday. To read more of the history, head over to Britannica.com.

In this year, 2025, Black Friday is on the 28th of November. Wondering if it’s too early to start your BF marketing and advertisement? Oh no dear, it’s late!! Just not very late, but you’ve got to catch up.

Businesses are now preparing their consumers to spend for BF as early as the end of September. The statistics ( https://statistics.blackfriday/ )  show that $74.4 billion was spent in just 24 hours during the 2024 Black Friday, and the figure is expected to sky rocket this year.

Your business has a chance to be part of this success. So anyway now that we know how the name black friday came into existence, let’s dive into what you should start doing to save your business this year.

1. Create a Black Friday Funnel With 3 Stages: Pre sale, Sale and Post sale

a. Pre-sale stage

This is where you warm up and tease your customers to build anticipation. Everyone has a fear of being left out of something beneficial or fun (well almost most people) especially with social media trends and everything.

Building anticipation with sneak peeks about a new product launch or services coming up, encouraging sign ups for early discounts or coupons and offering exclusive packages for VIP members or first customers will prepare your audience to buy whatever you are offering – well, as long as it fits their needs.

b. Sale stage

There’s no better way to make people spend on you other than creating smooth and seamless experiences that leave them feeling extra comfortable.

Vip pecks, Fast delivery, Gift packaging, After sale user guides or maintenance guides, Discounts on future purchases, or Points accumulation, these are tiny things that will make someone choose to buy from you and not that other shop.

Regardless of the price or brand name, a little extra care and personalisation is the secret to make your business bloom.

c. Post sale stage

If you are the type of business owner that ghosts your customers after they purchase from you, I am sorry to say this, but you’ve been missing out on alotttt of follow up sales.Yeah – that’s right!

The probability of selling to a new customer is just 5% – 20%. But those repeat customers, it’s 60% – 70%. Building a post sale structure shouldn’t be hard once you master it. It can involve asking for feedback, offering discounts for next purchases, providing complimentary services or products and so much more. They are several, and implementing them will build relationships with your customers and keep them coming even during the low seasons – and that’s exactly what your business needs.

2. Master your copywriting messaging style in emails, sales pages and socials

How could I end my talk on Black Friday without mentioning what will actually attract or repel an audience to your brand – Copywriting! The secret spice dashed over every successful marketing strategy.

Impressive copywriting messaging does all the heavy lifting for you, and with the right strategy, it will make money for you on the clock. Words have the power to make people decide whether they want to associate with your brand or not. So how exactly would you use copywriting when marketing during Black Friday?

Make use of it in Emails.

Emails are a place where you can build relationships with your clients outside the chaos. And the people in your email list probably joined to receive the juicy discounts, product launches, updates and so much more.

There’s no better way to boost sales than by letting your audience know the plans that you have for Black Friday early in advance. They will feel valued, and even start to create a budget to buy your products. By using bold subject lines, relatable copy and well thought CTAs, you should be okay.

Sales pages.

Could you please not make your sales page sound like a robot or feel templatey. Letting your customers decide by themselves whether they really need your product or not? In all case, you should make them know they need your stuff, don’t leave it up to them.

Copywriting is all about using physiology and words to make people buy from you. Explain to them how you understand their needs and can solve them, how you are about to reduce friction in a certain part of their life and eventually how you are able to build a moment they will remember even with their loved ones.

By having a website that is easily accessible, content that converts quickly and and probably collaboration with influencers can help build trust in your brand making people buy from you.

Based on the type of business that you have, some of the platforms that have done well for small business owners include Tiktok, Facebook, Pinterest, X (Twitter), Instagram and YouTube shots.

4. Make easy mobile shopping experiences.

By offering easy mobile shopping experiences, buy now pay later options (with PayPal,  klarna, Tabby, Tamara and so on), faster payment methods like Apple pay and easy hassle free check outs steps can increase sales by upto 35%.
